DES MOINES, Iowa – Eastern Oregon Women’s Wrestling made the trip out to Iowa to wrap up regular-season competition. Three grapplers earned spots on the podium battling through one of the most competitive tournaments in the country in the Grand View Open.
The Tournament consisted of a gold and a silver division. Liv Wieber was the only Mountie to place in the Gold Division placing third overall. She started things off with a tech fall victory over No. 16-ranked Leilani Hernandez from Texas Wesleyan. The sophomore followed that up with a quarterfinal victory over another ranked opponent, this time by pin over No. 9-ranked Mahealani Ramirez (Grand View University). Her only loss on the day came in the semifinal round where she dropped a match to the No.3-ranked NCAA Division I wrestler in the nation, University of Iowa’s Bella Mir. Wieber answered with two more victories to finish out the day including a win over No. 6-ranked Josette Partney of Missouri Baptist University.
In the silver division it was Brooke Cicierski and Nayeli Maston earning placement spots with third and second place finishes respectively. Cicierski went 5-1 on the day clinching a third place finish with a tight victory over an NCAA Division II opponent. Maston had a great day as well finishing 3-1 with her only loss coming in the championship to another Division II opponent.
