Editorial Assistant

The student editorial assistant works with The Voice faculty advisor and/or the editor-in-chief (EIC) to assist in the management, publication and academic excellence of Eastern Oregon University’s The Voice publication.

The editorial assistant assumes a collaborative responsibility for the content of the newspaper as it pertains to ethical standards, plagiarism issues, and quality. The editorial assistant works through the prepress processes from the print layout to the final publishing of the student newspaper. In addition, the editorial assistant will be responsible for generating content for The Voice, as well as assisting other students through the publication process.

Supervised by the faculty advisor, the editorial assistant may work remotely or in-person given their work involves both online and on-campus students. Students in this position will gain experience with editing and publishing in both written and multimedia formats and will serve as a mentor to other student journalists. Students in this role will also be expected to generate content for The Voice. This position will also give students hands-on experience with editorial and administrative tasks that are necessary for maintaining a news outlet.

Staff Writer

Staff writers will sharpen their news writing skills, learn to evaluate content for clarity and accuracy, apply AP style guidelines, and engage in ethical journalistic practices. They will connect their academic coursework to real-world journalism practices and learn how to craft stories that are relevant to the EOU student audience.
The Voice Staff Writer position offers the flexibility to work remotely or on campus, opportunities to publish your work, and the chance to build a portfolio of published writing. Work with a supportive editorial team and gain valuable hands-on experience in journalism and media production.
