Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Corban on Senior Day

LA GRANDE, Ore. — The Eastern Oregon women’s lacrosse team put up a fight early against Corban University in their final home contest of the season, eventually falling by a final score of 23-9 in favor of Corban.

The scoring began with Eastern Oregon’s Maddy Woodruff notching the first goal of the game at 14:48 in the first period, giving the Mountaineers an early lead. However, Corban quickly responded with a goal from Megan Lia, leveling the score at 1-1 less than a minute into the game.

The first period saw a back-and-forth exchange of goals, with Saydee Hetrick of Eastern Oregon and Lia of Corban each contributing goals for their respective teams. Despite Eastern Oregon’s efforts, Corban managed to end the first period with a 5-3 lead.

Corban extended their lead in the second, with Sydney Davis scoring three goals for her team. The Mountaineers’ offense struggled to keep pace, with goals from Claire Bever and Jade McCoy not enough to close the gap as the team faced a 13-6 deficit.

The third period saw Eastern Oregon rallying with goals from Hetrick and McCoy, but Corban’s offense remained relentless, maintaining their lead with goals from various players, including Lia, Annette Romano, and Elsie Marineau.

Corban sealed their victory with a series of goals in the fourth, including successful free position shots from Kailyn Dawkins, Davis, and Marineau.

Saturday’s contest also marked Senior Day for the Mountaineers, recognizing Olivia Kerr, Saydee Hetrick, and Sierra Gonzales for their hard work and contributions to the program.
