LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon returned to the competitive atmosphere of Quinn Coliseum Friday, narrowly defeating a competitive Bushnell Beacons team to a score of 3-1. The match also marked a monumental day for senior outside hitter Sade Williams, as she recorded her 1,000th career kill for the Mounties. Williams has been a pivotal presence for the last five seasons, surpassing the 4-digit milestone in both kills and digs.
Bushnell started the evening strong, clinching the first set 25-22. However, Eastern Oregon rallied and gained momentum, taking the next three sets 25-22, 25-17, and 25-16. Eastern Oregon showcased a superior hitting percentage of .178, amassing 51 kills from 135 total attempts with 27 errors. By comparison, Bushnell posted a hitting percentage of .050, tallying 36 kills from 140 attempts with 29 errors.
For Eastern Oregon, the 1k standout Sade Williams delivered an impressive performance, notching 16 kills from 36 attempts with a hitting efficiency of .306. She also contributed 13 digs and was involved in 5 blocks. Ashton Haughton followed with 12 kills and 2 digs. Alexis McMurtrey facilitated the team’s offense, providing 26 assists and adding 11 digs defensively.
On the Bushnell side, Matty Ladd emerged as the top performer, registering 7 kills from 28 attempts, while Leah Agost and Makenna Mosher contributed 8 and 5 kills, respectively. Peyton Ritchie played a key role as the team’s setter with 12 assists and also managed 10 digs.
Tomorrow evening, the Mounties will be back in action at Quinn Coliseum, facing off against the No. 6 ranked Corban University in a clash of conference front-runners. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.
