HONOLULU, Hawaii — The recently concluded Magic Island Hawaii Classic volleyball tournament showcased why Eastern Oregon is one of the top teams in the nation. Among the standout players, Sade Williams and Hannah Ledgerwood emerged as pivotal contributors for their team, leaving their mark on the tournament as both were named to the All-Tournament Team and Williams was named Tournament MVP.
In a thrilling series of three matches Williams established herself as a force to be reckoned with. In the span of 10 sets, Williams exhibited her multifaceted skill set, earning herself the coveted title of Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP). The senior’s commanding presence at the net resulted in 41 kills, averaging an impressive 4.10 kills per set. Her efficiency was evident in her stellar attack percentage of .459. Williams also displayed her versatility by contributing 23 digs, demonstrating her ability to excel both offensively and defensively.
Not to be overshadowed, Hannah Ledgerwood showcased her own capabilities throughout the tournament. Ledgerwood’s remarkable performance earned her a well-deserved spot on the All-Tournament team. In 10 sets played, Ledgerwood exhibited masterful control of the game with 51 assists, averaging an impressive 5.10 assists per set. Furthermore, Ledgerwood displayed exceptional accuracy in her serving game, tallying 5 aces and maintaining a serving percentage of .667.
Williams and Ledgerwood’s contributions were consistent on the defensive end as well. Williams exhibited her defensive prowess with 7 block assists, totaling 0.70 blocks per set. Meanwhile, Ledgerwood showcased her ability to read the game amassing an 31 digs at a rate of 3.10 digs per set.
Williams, Ledgerwood and the Mountaineers wrapped up another undefeated weekend to finish preseason play 7-0. Eastern kicks off conference action on Friday, September 1, when they take on Oregon Tech in Quinn Coliseum.
