LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon women’s basketball’s five-game winning streak was snapped Friday night, dropping a back-and-forth game to Southern Oregon. Brie Holecek’s game-tying attempt rolled off the rim as time expired, marking a 65-63 Raider victory at Quinn Coliseum.
Holecek had previously hit a step-back three-pointer off the glass as the shot clock expired, cutting the Mounties’ deficit to two with just 35 seconds left. The junior finished with a game-high 30 points, connecting on 4-6 shots from deep and going 12-13 from the free-throw line.
Southern Oregon had a slightly better shooting performance on the night, connecting on 43.9% of their field goals compared to Eastern Oregon’s 41.3%. However, the Mountaineers excelled at the free-throw line, reaching the charity stripe for 27 attempts compared to the Raiders’ 10 attempts. Eastern Oregon also controlled the glass, outrebounding Southern Oregon 35 to 26.
In a back-and-forth game between two of the CCC’s top teams, the night finished with 10 ties and 20 lead changes throughout the game.
Outside of Holecek, no player scored double figures in tonight’s contest. Macie Elliott finished with 9 points in the contest, all of which came in an explosive first quarter.
Meghan McIntyre led the charge for SOU with a well-rounded performance, contributing 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Izzy Hernandez also showcased her sharpshooting, connecting on 3 of 4 three-point attempts and finishing with 12 points. Kami Walk finished the game with 15 points and 2 steals, despite playing through foul trouble most of the night.
With the win, Southern Oregon improves to 14-4 overall and 10-2 in CCC, while Eastern Oregon’s record shifts to 12-5 and 8-5 in conference. The Mounties will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon against the Owls of Oregon Tech, set to tip off at Quinn Coliseum at 3 pm.
