CORVALLIS, Ore. – Cambree Scott (Shields) added on to her historic EOU resume this spring with one final award. The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced on Tuesday that the Mountaineers’ Middle Hitter was selected as the CCC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
“I am so incredibly proud of Cam and what she has accomplished as a Mountie for the last five years both in the classroom and on the court,” Head Coach Kaki McLean Morehead said. “To be recognized from the conference for this award shows how tirelessly she has worked in all aspects of being a student-athlete.”
For EOU, Scott is the second athlete to ever win the award. The only other Mountie to earn the honor was another former volleyball player, Kiley McMurtrey, in the 2019-2020 athletic year. The prestigious award comes after a stellar year on the court and in the classroom for Scott.
The Bend, Oregon native helped lead EOU to its first ever NAIA Semifinal appearance in the National Championship tournament. She led the nation in blocks averaging 1.46 per set on defense. Offensively, Scott was just as effective racking up 283 kills on the year (2.23 per set) while hitting .248. For her work on the court she earned the following awards this year: First Team All-CCC, AVCA First Team All-Region, First Team NAIA All-American, and NAIA All-Tournament Team.
In the classroom Scott already completed her undergraduate program earning a degree in Multidisciplinary Studies and is now working towards her Master of Art in Teaching. Her outstanding work academically this year earned her Academic All-Conference, Academic All-District (College Sports Communicators – CSC), Academic All-American (CSC), an NAIA Daktronic Scholar-Athlete award, and the NAIA Academic All-America Team Member of the Year award (CSC).
“Cam truly embodies everything that the Mountaineer volleyball program is about,” McLean Morehead said. “She has blessed this program with grit, relentlessness, fire, and one of the kindest hearts I have ever seen, and for that we are forever grateful that she is, was, and always will be a mountaineer.”
