MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s women’s lacrosse team suffered a 24-3 defeat against Linfield on Friday in McMinnville, Oregon. Jade McCoy put up another multi-goal game but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Wildcats. With the loss Eastern falls to 0-3 on the season.
Linfield’s Gabby Crist led the scoring with seven goals, followed by Leah Stednick with six goals. Savannah Irwin, Mackenzie Kulick, and Maizri Chandler each contributed three goals for Linfield. Linfield dominated the draw controls, leading 19-11.
For Eastern Oregon, Jade McCoy scored two goals, and Saydee Hetrick added one goal. Claire Bever provided an assist.
The game started with Linfield taking an early lead with Gabby Crist scoring the first goal of the match at 13:58 in the first period. This was followed by a series of unassisted goals from Maizri Chandler, Gabby Crist, Leah Stednick, and Savannah Irwin. Madison DeLaTrinidad scored the sixth goal for Linfield, assisted by Savannah Irwin. The first half ended with Linfield leading 11-0.
In the second half, Jade McCoy scored the first goal for Eastern Oregon. However, Linfield maintained their lead with consistent scoring from a balanced attack. The third period saw Linfield extend their lead to 21-2, with the final goal of the period scored by Saydee Hetrick for Eastern Oregon, assisted by Claire Bever.
In the fourth period, Mackenzie Kulick and Savannah Irwin scored for Linfield, while Jade McCoy scored the final goal for Eastern Oregon.
Eastern Oregon goalkeeper Sydney Vopat made two saves in the match.
The Mountaineers will return to action tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. tilt against Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.
