Mounties Take First Home Game Over Nighthawks

LA GRANDE, Ore.- Eastern Oregon was back in action Saturday afternoon as they took on the Nighthawks of Northwest Nazarene University (NCAA DII) in an exhibition match to kick off the 2023 season. EOU ultimately managed to clinch a 2-1 victory over the Nighthawks.

Eastern Oregon’s Kana Mateaki, showcased her exceptional skills, scoring twice for her team. She opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with an unassisted goal. She then doubled the lead shortly after halftime, once again without any assistance, in the 48th minute.

However, Northwest Nazarene University wasn’t going down without a fight. They made a comeback attempt in the 75th minute when Ellie Ritter, with an assist from Olivia Wicks, found the back of the net, closing the deficit to just one goal. Unfortunately for them, that would be the end of their scoring for the day as Eastern Oregon cruised to a 2-1 victory.
