Mounties Start Season with 3-Win Day

REDDING, Calif.– Eastern Oregon Softball kicked off the season in a big way pulling off a 3-0 day in their first look at live action for the 2024 season. The Mounties handled business against Simpson to start the day pulling off a 3-0 victory that saw junior Kaylie Hoskins pick up right where she left off in the circle. In game two it was EOU’s offense that carried the load on their way to a 14-5 victory over Jessup University. Finally, in a late addition to the day’s slate of games, Eastern ran away with 12-3 victory over Simpson in six innings.

Up next on the schedule is a single game against Jessup University on Sunday, February 4. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.

GAME 1
In a tightly contested softball matchup, Eastern Oregon University emerged victorious with a 3-0 win over their Simpson to kick off the 2024 campaign. Eastern was lights out in the circle thanks to a 1-hit performance from returning All-American, Kaylie Hoskins. The Mountaineers showcased some offensive firepower in the 2nd inning when Madison Olson’s single drove in Hannah Tyree giving Eastern Oregon an early 1-0 lead. The team continued to build on their advantage in the 6th inning when Hannah Tyree’s double brought home Madelyn Durham, extending the lead to 2-0. In the 7th inning, Karly Hanosky’s sacrifice fly to right field allowed Gates Leatherwood to score, securing a 3-0 victory for Eastern Oregon.

GAME 2:
In a thrilling game two, Eastern Oregon University showcased their resilience and offensive firepower, securing a 14-5 victory over Jessup University. The Mountaineers jumped to an early lead in the 1st inning as Maddy Stateler’s RBI single brought home Addison Ribordy. However, Jessup University responded in the 4th inning with Sarah Giles’ solo homer, narrowing the gap to 3-1. Eastern Oregon maintained their lead until the 5th inning when Jessup University staged an impressive comeback, scoring four runs to take a 5-4 lead. Undeterred, the Mountaineers rallied in the 6th and 7th innings, with Emily Barry’s three-run homer and Haley Tyree’s grand slam, propelling Eastern Oregon to a commanding 14-5 triumph. The late-game offensive explosion and standout performances from Barry and Tyree secured a second straight win for Eastern.

In a dominating performance, Eastern Oregon University softball secured a decisive 12-3 victory over Simpson to cap off a perfect 3-0 day. The Mountaineers continued to prove their offensive firepower, with Madison Olson leading the charge in the 2nd inning by smashing a solo homer, leveling the score at 1-1. Eastern Oregon continued their scoring spree in the same inning, as Katelynn Evans’ RBI single and Maddy Stateler’s two-RBI single propelled them to a 4-1 lead. In the 4th inning, Olson’s second RBI single extended the Mountaineers’ advantage to 5-1, but Simpson responded with a Kimberlee Walston triple, narrowing the gap to 5-2. Eastern Oregon sealed the victory in the 5th and 6th innings, highlighted by Haley Tyree’s three-run homer and a series of well-executed plays that resulted in a commanding 12-3 win.
