Mounties Split with Yotes on Day One

Caldwell, Idaho. – Eastern Oregon returned to action for their final regular-season series of the year on Saturday. The College of Idaho struck first taking game one 4-2 thanks to a late-inning run. EOU bounced back in game two taking a 7-4 victory on a 9-hit performance.

GAME 1
The Mounties dropped a tight game one to the Yotes, 4-2. The game saw Eastern Oregon take an early lead in the 5th inning with Tommy Whiles smashing a solo home run, followed by Chase Nett’s RBI groundout, scoring Tyler Balkenbush. However, The College of Idaho quickly responded with Ben Gaff’s triple to right center, bringing in Chandler Stocking, leveling the score. The momentum continued as The College of Idaho’s Jack Ingraham singled to right center in the same inning, knotting the game at 2-2. Despite a strong effort from Eastern Oregon, The College of Idaho managed to edge ahead in the later innings, securing a 4-2 victory.

GAME 2
The Mounties responded with a 7-4 victory in game two. Eastern Oregon struck early in the first inning when Mario Landeros reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing Parker Cumberland to score. They extended their lead in the 3rd inning with Landeros delivering an RBI single, bringing in Joey Freitas. However, The College of Idaho fought back in the 4th inning, tying the game with Dillon Danner’s two-RBI single and Jake Kelly’s RBI single. Eastern Oregon regained the lead in the 5th inning thanks to a Cumberland RBI single, followed by a crucial triple from Youyheon Choi in the 6th inning. Freitas added insurance runs in the 7th with a homer, securing a 6-3 lead. The College of Idaho managed to narrow the gap with Kelly’s RBI single in the 7th, but Eastern Oregon sealed the victory in the 9th with Chase Nett’s RBI double, ultimately triumphing 7-4.
