Mounties Rout Geoducks in Three Sets

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s Mountaineers kicked off Homecoming weekend with a dominant display Friday, securing a 3-0 victory against Evergreen State in Quinn Coliseum.

The final scores of the three sets were 25-14, 25-17, and 25-17, with the Mountaineers maintaining a striking offensive and defensive advantage throughout. Eastern Oregon maintained hitting percentage of .355 in the first set, .226 in the second, and .105 in the third, compared to Evergreen’s .030, .149, and .000, respectively.

Standout performances from Eastern Oregon players made significant contributions to this decisive win. Ashton Haughton led the team in kills with 11, while Alexis McMurtrey facilitated play with 22 assists and 10 digs. Hailey Arritola was also a game changer defensively, contributing 18 digs and further aiding the team with two service aces.

Evergreen State’s Andee Nelson led her team with nine kills while Jessica Mitchell and Jenna Glenzel directed Evergreen’s play with 11 and 10 assists respectively. Rylee Grams did her best to stifle the Mountaineers attacks, recording 17 digs throughout the three sets.

The Mountaineers demonstrated a dominant display at the net, tallying a total of nine team blocks compared to Evergreen’s four. Britt Vaughn, Mylie Mills, and Kiauna Mack of Eastern Oregon each contributed significantly to the final total.

Eastern Oregon now stands with an impressive 20-1 overall and 13-1 in CCC, continuing to push their first place standing in the conference. The Mounties will have a rematch opportunity with Northwest University tomorrow at 5:00 p.m., the only team to defeat EOU this season.
