Mounties Pull Off Late Comeback Over Whitman

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Eastern Oregon notched a midweek single-game victory over the Whitman University Blues on Tuesday afternoon in Walla Walla, coming back to win by a final score of 8-4.

Whitman struck first when Sam Mieskows-Lapping hit a double to center field, bringing home Nathan Wilson. Anthony Ahu-Fisher then smacked one over the fence in the bottom of the second inning to put the Blues up 2-0. Eastern Oregon responded in the third inning with a Mario Landeros single, which allowed Parker Cumberland to score, bringing Eastern within one run.

Whitman held the lead 4-1 going into the eighth inning, but EOU found their rhythm. Tommy Whiles hit a single, allowing Joey Freitas to score, quickly followed by Carson Gerding and Whiles finding their way home, tying the game 4-4. Chase Nett then rifled one out to right field, allowing Youhyeon Choi to score and put the Mounties up 5-4. A Cumberland triple boosted EOU’s lead to 7-4, followed by Cumberland then capitalizing on a wild pitch to tack on the final Mountie run. Eastern Oregon battled to hold off Whitman in the last couple of innings and completed the comeback.

Jayden Butler contributed with four strikeouts to help the Mounties ward off the Blues.

EOU will now jump back into conference play on Saturday, April 27, in Caldwell, Idaho, against I-84 rivals The College of Idaho Yotes. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. MST.
