Mounties Huge Offensive Day Leads to Big Victory Over Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Eastern Oregon was back in action Saturday afternoon as they took on the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College. The Mounties had a huge offensive day, scoring nine total goals on 25 shots as a team. Ultimately, Eastern cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Geoducks. 

The Mountaineers started strong and never looked back as Kana Mateaki, just seven minutes into the match gave the Mounties the lead as she found the back of the net from a Karina DeYoung assist. From then on the Mountie offense could not be stopped as a scoring frenzy followed. It was Peyton Jacaway who scored the second goal of the afternoon in the 16th minute from an Erika Skindlov assist, then Kapri McMillian in the 38th minute gave Eastern a 3-0 lead.

As the second half kicked off, EOU did not let up, scoring a total of six goals in the half which was started by DeYoung, then followed shortly after by Darby McDevitt to give the Mounties a 5-0 lead. Mackenzie Huotari found the sixth goal of the afternoon for the Mountaineers in the 74th minute, then in the 79th minute Mateaki found the back of the net for the second time. Just 12 seconds of game time after the Mateaki goal, Emmy Williams gave Eastern Oregon an 8-0 lead. The scoring concluded in the 84th minute after Hailey Rogan scored an unassisted goal to give the Mountaineers a 9-0 lead. Eastern cruised the rest of the way to improve to 3-0-3 on the season and 1-0-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Eastern Oregon will be back in action Friday, Sept. 22 as they return home to take on Rocky Mountain College. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
