Mounties Hot Start Sparks Victory Over Buffaloes

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. – Eastern Oregon took the pitch as they kicked off game one of a three match road trip against the Buffaloes of Milligan University. Eastern jumped out to a quick start and never looked back, ultimately defeating the Buffaloes by a score of 3-1.

The Mountaineers came out firing, scoring two goals in less than three minutes of game time. The first came in the 16th minute when Erika Skindlov found the back of the net, assisted by Kana Mateaki. Shortly after, in the 18th minute Mateaki scored a goal of her own assisted by Brooke Snyder, giving Eastern an early 2-0 lead.  

Following halftime, EOU extended their lead in the 52nd minute, as Mateaki recorded her second goal of the afternoon and gave the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead. The Buffaloes did not go away quietly as they scored their first goal of the afternoon in the 64th minute after Milligan’s Emma True scored, assisted by Natalie Roper. That would be the end of the scoring for both teams as EOU cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Buffaloes.

Eastern Oregon will be back in action Saturday, Aug. 25 to take on Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tenn. The match is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. EST.
