SPOKANE, Wash. – Despite suffering a 7-2 loss in the opening game of Sunday’s doubleheader, Joey Freitas tallied 5 RBIs in game two, propelling the Mounties to a 7-2 victory of their own. The Pirates had started the season 11-0 before Sunday’s defeat at the hands of Eastern Oregon.
GAME ONE
Eastern Oregon couldn’t keep up with Whitworth, falling 7-2 in the opening game of their series on Sunday.
The Pirates took control in the second inning, scoring two runs courtesy of a double by Spencer Shipman and a single by Ty Quiggle.
Despite the early deficit, the Mounties struck back, adding runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Chase Nett scored off the bat of Joey Freitas in the third inning, followed by Tommy Whiles’ homer in the fourth that tied the game 2-2.
Whitworth would string together several runs in the fifth inning, eventually taking the game by five runs.

GAME TWO
The Mountaineers flipped the script in game two, securing a convincing 7-2 victory over Whitworth in the second game of their series on Saturday.
The game started with both teams trading blows in the first inning, with Mario Landeros’ double giving Eastern Oregon an early lead before Whitworth responded with a run of their own.
The Mounties regained the lead in the third inning thanks to a homer by Joey Freitas, but Whitworth quickly tied the game again in the fourth after Kevin Corder reached home on a fielder’s choice.
In the fifth, Eastern Oregon pulled ahead and never looked back, with Parker Cumberland’s homer giving them a one-run advantage. The momentum continued in the seventh inning as Freitas struck again with another homer, bringing in two runs and extending the Mountaineers’ lead to 5-2.
Freitas continued his huge afternoon, sealing the game with another bomb that would give Eastern Oregon the 7-2 victory.
