Mounties Fall to Argos in NAIA Opening Round

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The No. 15 seeded Mountaineers took on the No.2 seeded Argos of the University of Providence (Mont.) on the road in the opening round of the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championships. The Argos fought back from a halftime deficit to take the game by a score of 67-57. 

The first quarter saw both teams trading baskets, with Eastern Oregon taking a slim one-point lead at 17-16. The second quarter showed to be similar, as the Mountaineers held a 32-31 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Providence gained momentum, outscoring Eastern Oregon 19-10 to take a commanding lead heading into the final quarter with a score of 51-42. Despite Eastern Oregon’s efforts to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, Providence maintained their lead and took the victory by a score of 67-57.

Keanna Salave’a led the scoring for Providence with an impressive 35 points, while Ashlee Maldonado contributed nine points and added 10 assists. The Mountaineers were led in scoring by Kelsie Siegner with 14 points. Macie Elliot added 11 points and five rebounds

With the loss, the Mountaineers have been eliminated from the NAIA National Championships, wrapping their season up with an impressive 21-8 record.
