Mounties Fall Short on Day One Against Yotes

LA GRANDE, Ore.- The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers (3-37) hosted their last CCC opponent, I-84 Rival, The College of Idaho Yotes (29-16) on Friday. The Yotes were able to grab both of the games this afternoon. Game one was a back and forth battle, COI took the game 5-7 in a late game comeback. Game two was a seven inning 16-4 win for the Yotes. EOU and COI are back in La Grande tomorrow for another doubleheader at Optimist Field. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. but EOU will recognize their seniors at 10:20 a.m. before the game.

GAME 1
EOU was able to get on the board first and held the lead until the sixth, when COI rallied, putting up four runs. The Mounties answered back adding two more runs, but ultimately, the Yotes grabbed three more at the top of ninth via a Skyler Sadora homer to take the game 7-3. Mario Landeros went 3-4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs. Eastern totaled seven hits, five RBIs, and one error in game one.

GAME 2 
The Yotes were able to stay in a rhythm at the plate that helped them take the seven-inning game 16-3 to wrap up the day. Four different Mountie pitchers saw the mound in game two to try and limit the Yotes, but it wasn’t enough to edge out five College of Idaho home runs. Danny Burns went 2-3 at the plate with one double. Adrian RoaNoah Mayfield, and Joey Freitas each had an RBI to help get the Mounties on the board.
