Mounties Drop Saturday Doubleheader to Beacons

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon was back in action Saturday as they took on the Beacons of Bushnell University in a doubleheader. The Beacons showed to be too much for the Mounties as they took game one by a score of 15-13 and game two by a score of 17-11.

GAME ONE

The early innings saw the Mountaineers jump out to an early lead, capitalizing on some defensive miscues by Bushnell to take a 5-0 lead in the second inning. However, Bushnell rallied back in the fourth inning, highlighted by key hits from Kyle Casperson and Liam Kerr, to tie the game at 5-5.

The momentum swung back and forth as both teams exchanged blows. Bushnell’s offense was led by standout performances from Casperson and Cade Crist, who both launched home runs. EOU countered with a strong showing from Parker Cumberland, who delivered a clutch home run in the seventh inning to give his team a late lead.

Bushnell refused to back down, staging a comeback in the eighth and ninth innings. Nate Stevens came through with a clutch hit to tie the game at 13-13, setting the stage for Crist’s game-winning two-run homer in the final inning.
