LA GRANDE, Ore. – In a closely contested game Eastern Oregon fell short against Corban University with a final score of 65-70. EOU gave the Warriors a challenge thanks to some late game efforts from Garrett Hawkes and Jonny Hillman, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Corban.
EOU started strong, ending the first half just three points behind Corban (28-31). However, despite a valiant effort in the second half, EOU couldn’t overcome Corban’s strong performance, which saw them score 39 points to EOU’s 37. Eastern stormed back in the second half to take a lead with less than 8 minutes to go but couldn’t hold on down the stretch.
For EOU, Garrett Hawkes led in scoring with 17 points, followed by Jonny Hillman with 11 points. Jaden Hansen and Brennen Newsom also contributed with 10 and 8 points respectively. Newsom also led the Mounties in rebounds, securing 9 for the team.
On the other side, Corban’s Jay Wilson led all scorers with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Collin Warmouth and Reece Van Lierop also had strong performances, contributing 14 and 12 points respectively.
Although the Mounties held the advantage in second chance points, scoring 14 compared to Corban’s 4, and had 7 more points off turnovers than the Warriors, shooting struggles proved to be too much to overcome.
With the loss EOU drops to 11-16 overall and 10-11 in CCC play. Eastern will look to right the ship and end the regular season on a win tomorrow evening when they take on Bushnell University at home. The senior day game will tipoff at 5 p.m.
