LA GRANDE, Ore. – The newly crowned No. 1 Eastern Oregon University volleyball team showcased their supremacy at Quinn Coliseum handing Oregon Tech a resounding 3-set defeat. Dominating with scores of 25-8, 25-7, and 25-18, the Mountaineers extended their undefeated streak, emphasizing why they’ve clinched the top national spot.
EOU established a decisive lead early and kept Oregon Tech on the defensive for the majority of the first set. Despite service errors from both teams, players like Kara Clayton, Madison Morgan, and Keira Vaughn showed up in a big way at the net, extending the Mounties point margin. The set concluded with a decisive score of 25-8 in favor of Eastern Oregon.
The second set followed a similar pattern with the Mounties claiming an early lead and never giving it back. Eastern Oregon’s defenses made it difficult for the Owl’s to get many balls past the net, ending the set at 25-7. The Mountaineers surged ahead in the third set with a six-point lead, largely thanks to Alexis McMurtrey’s exceptional service. Oregon Tech responded with a series of kills and service aces, but EOU managed to close the set at 25-18, completing a clean 3-0 sweep. Eastern Oregon showcased an impressive .393 kill percentage throughout.
