Mountaineers Announce 2024 Football Schedule

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Football and Athletics are pleased to announce the upcoming 2024 football schedule. The Mountaineers will return to the turf slated to play 11 games with six at home in Community Stadium.

“We’re looking forward to another great year with a solid schedule,” Head Coach Tim Camp said.

EOU will once again open up the season with two non-conference games starting with a road trip to Dillon, Montana to take on the Bulldogs of Montana Western on Saturday, September 7. As was the case in 2022, the first matchup between EOU and UMW will not be a conference counting game.

The next week the Mounties will open up home competition with the third installment of the renewed rivalry against Whitworth College on Saturday, September 14.

From there the Mounties will jump into Frontier Conference play with another home game against the Orediggers of Montana Tech. Eastern will aim to reverse the trend of the last two years and get back into the win column with the conference opener.

A notable addition to the schedule this season is a game against Simpson University out of Redding, California. The Redhawks announced the addition of their football program in 2022 and will play their first full schedule in 2024. The addition of football makes Simpson the only NAIA school in California to carry a football program. The two teams will hit the turf in Community Stadium for week eight on October 26 for their first ever matchup.

Eastern Oregon will look to return to winning form as the Mountaineers haven’t had a winning season since the covid-shortened 2020 season where they finished 3-1.

They will have to battle through one of the toughest conferences in the country once again. Last season, four of EOU’s 10 games were against ranked opponents. In the final poll of the season Carrol College, Montana Tech, College of Idaho and Montana Western all earned national rankings with the latter two both sitting inside the top-10. The Mounties will play five games against those four teams this upcoming season.

“We feel like we have the toughest schedule in the country and look forward to getting things started and showing what we are capable of in the fall,” Camp said.
