PORTLAND, Ore. – In their final regular season men’s soccer match on Saturday, Eastern Oregon suffered a 5-1 defeat against Multnomah University. The game saw Multnomah impress offensively, recording 17 shots compared to Eastern Oregon’s 7.
Multnomah started strong, with Bashir Zahouri opening the scoring in the 6th minute. The momentum continued in the second half with Zahouri netting another, followed by goals from Wesley Gerlach and Paul Einero, who scored twice. Despite the offensive onslaught from Multnomah, Eastern Oregon managed to get on the board late in the game with an unassisted goal by Zhengning Lu in the 87th minute.
Goalkeeper Kole Anderson for Eastern Oregon faced a challenging match, making 7 saves against 12 shots on goal. On the other side, Multnomah’s goalkeepers Eliodoro Solis and Pablo Mendoza combined for 2 saves.
It was a chippy contest, with Multnomah accumulating five yellow cards and Eastern Oregon receiving two. Eastern Oregon committed 14 fouls while Multnomah had 6.
Saturday’s loss concludes the 2022 regular season for Mountaineers. EOU finished 3-9-5 on the season and 3-7-3 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
