LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University is proud to announce the commendable achievements of two of its athletes – Alexis McMurtrey and Blaine Shaw. Their outstanding performances have earned each of them Player of the Week honors in their respective sports.
Alexis McMurtrey of Eastern Oregon Volleyball has been named the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Setter of the Week. This marks the second consecutive week that she has earned this honor, and the third time this season. Over the weekend, McMurtrey delivered 34 assists, averaging 5.67 per set, 19 digs, and two service aces. These statistics highlight her significant contributions to the Mounties’ back-to-back sweeps over No. 5 Corban University and Bushnell University.
In football, Blaine Shaw was awarded the Week Six Erck Hotels Frontier Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week. Shaw’s exceptional defensive play was pivotal in the Mountaineers’ 34-0 shutout victory against Arizona Christian, marking their first win of the season. Shaw recorded an impressive 11 tackles, seven of which were solo, setting a new career high. Additionally, Shaw registered his first sack of the season and contributed a pass break-up, making his presence felt in both the backfield and the secondary.
