Hoskins Ties EOU Single-Game Strikeout Record

LA GRANDE, Ore. – No. 11 nationally ranked Eastern Oregon Softball was back in action Friday as they took on the Beacons of Bushnell University. It took nine innings and a school record 17 strikeouts by Kaylie Hoskins for the Mounties to take game one by a score of 2-1. Eastern erupted offensively in game two, ultimately winning by a score of 6-0. 

GAME ONE

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when Madelyn Durham delivered a single to right field, allowing Madison Olson to cross home plate and give Eastern Oregon a 1-0 lead. Bushnell fought back in the seventh inning. Suzi Krstic came through for the Beacons with a single to right field, driving in Haleigh Wambolt to even the score at one. The score was knotted up at one after seven innings, forcing the game into extra innings. Madelyn Durham proved to be the hero for the Mounties, delivering a walk-off single to left center, allowing Addison Ribordy to score the winning run.

Kaylie Hoskins took the circle for the Mounties and yet again delivered a record breaking performance. Hoskins struck out a remarkable 17 batters, tying the EOU single-game strikeout record previously set by herself last season.

GAME TWO

The scoring began early for Eastern as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Karly Hanosky started the offensive onslaught with a single to right field, driving in Haley Tyree. Shortly after, Kelly Monaghan delivered a single to right field, bringing home Madelyn Durham and Hanosky to extend the Mountaineers lead. In the fourth inning, EOU added another run to their tally when Haley Tyree hit a single down the right field line, allowing Maddy Stateler to score, making it 4-0. Eastern Oregon continued to pile on the runs in the fifth inning. Madelyn Durham singled through the right side, driving in Katelynn Evans to push the lead to 5-0. Maddy Stateler then doubled to center field, bringing home Durham to extend the Mounties lead to 6-0. Kylie Parsons was outstanding in the circle for the Mountaineers, throwing a complete game shutout. Parsons allowed just one hit while striking out an impressive 10 batters.

Eastern Oregon will be back in action Saturday, April. 20 as they will take on the Beacons of Bushnell University. This will be the final home games of the EOU Softball regular season and senior day recognition will take place in between game one and game two. First pitch of game one is set for 11:00 a.m.
