LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon Athletics dominated the competition this week, clinching a remarkable five CCC Rize Laboratory Player of the Week honors. Securing nearly half of the conference’s weekly accolades, these awards underscore the passion and commitment of Eastern Oregon athletes to excel in their respective sports.
Men’s Cross Country – Justin Ash No. 6 Eastern Oregon University celebrates Justin Ash for being recognized as the Rize Laboratory Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. A junior hailing from Baker City, Ore., Ash clinched the seventh position out of 52 runners at the Sasquatch Open. Recording a time of 25:00.2 in the 8K, he spearheaded the Mounties to achieve a commendable second-place team finish.
Women’s Cross Country – Lauryn Mitchell Eastern Oregon University’s Lauryn Mitchell was proudly named the Rize Laboratory Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Mitchell, a junior from Midvale, Idaho, displayed her resolve by securing the 16th position among 39 participants at the Sasquatch Open. With a 5K time of 19:40.8, she piloted the Mounties to a notable fourth-place finish.
Women’s Soccer – Chloe FlynnChloe Flynn of Eastern Oregon University was awarded the Rize Laboratory Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. As a junior defender from Boise, Idaho, Flynn guided the Mounties to two victories and scored in the 4-0 triumph over Warner Pacific University. She also contributed another goal in the subsequent 3-0 win against Multnomah University while ending the week with a .600 shot-on-goal percentage.
Volleyball – Sade Williams The No. 3 ranked Eastern Oregon Volleyball team is proud to announce Sade Williams as the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Attacker of the Week. Williams, a senior outside hitter from Idaho Falls, Idaho, was instrumental in the Mounties’ dual victories. This weekend, Williams showcased her talent by notching 27 kills, 29 digs, and 8 blocks, and achieved the significant milestone of 1,000 career kills. Her impeccable performance ensured triumphs over Bushnell University and No. 6 Corban University, both achieved in four sets. Currently, she stands tall in the CCC’s top 10 for kills, with an average of 2.69 per set.
Volleyball – Alexis McMurtreyAlexis McMurtrey, no stranger to the honor, was crowned the Rize Laboratory Volleyball Setter of the Week for the fifth time this season. The junior setter, also from Idaho Falls, Idaho, led her team with an impressive 48 assists last week, averaging 6.00 per set. Her contributions further included 29 digs, two kills, and a service ace. In the ongoing CCC rankings, McMurtrey stands third in service aces (0.37 avg/s) and sixth in assists (5.57 avg/s).
