EOU Volleyball Sweeps First Round of NAIA Championships

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Mounties delivered an impressive performance in their first-round matchup of the NAIA Volleyball National Championships, securing a decisive 3-0 sweep against Xavier. With a remarkable 31-1 record, the top-seeded Mounties had no trouble with the Red River Athletic Conference champions, defeating them 25-16, 25-15, 25-14 in straight sets.

Eastern Oregon’s offense was led by Senior Sade Williams, tallying 12 kills and an outstanding .360 hitting percentage. The defensive tandem of Mylie Mills, who led with five blocks, and libero Hailey Arritola, offering essential support with 14 digs, fortified the Mounties’ defensive efforts. Setter Hannah Ledgerwood also played a significant role in the team’s success, skillfully orchestrating plays with 17 assists.

Xavier was led by notable performances from Kennedy Wade, who contributed six kills, and Ruxandra Flueras with 15 digs. The Gold Nuggets concluded the season with their 13th consecutive automatic bid to nationals, finishing with a record of 19-8.

This victory not only propels the Mounties further in the national tournament but also gives Eastern Oregon momentum in the quest for further success in the NAIA Volleyball National Championships. The Mounties will await their opponent as they look forward to the 44th Annual Volleyball National Championship, set to take place from November 29 to December 5, 2023, at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
