LA GRANDE, Ore. – In a highly anticipated matchup between conference leaders, Eastern Oregon secured a 3-1 victory over the No. 6 ranked Corban. The Warriors began with a strong lead, edging the Mounties 26-24 in the first set. Yet the Mounties swiftly adapted and secured the subsequent three sets at 25-17, 27-25, and 25-14.
EOU registered a combined hitting percentage of .200, considerably outpacing Corban’s .086. Leading the charge for the Mounties was Keira Vaughn, who exhibited a stellar performance, amassing 17 kills on a .375 hitting percentage. Sade Williams added 11 kills and showcased her all-around skills with 16 digs. The offensive capabilities of the Mounties was further enhanced by Alexis McMurtrey, who delivered 22 assists, and also asserted herself defensively with 18 digs.
Rylee Troutman stood out as the primary offensive weapon, notching 13 kills despite a .045 hitting percentage. Graci Zanona and Marissa Uehara anchored the defensive end for Corban with 21 and 26 digs respectively.
A notable mention from Eastern Oregon’s defense was Hailey Arritola, accumulating a match-high 29 digs. Hannah Ledgerwood and Adrienne Washington further fortified the Mounties’ defenses, combining for 4 aces and contributing 21 digs collectively.
The result solidifies Eastern Oregon’s leadership in the CCC, boasting an impressive 26-1 overall record claiming the sole spot on top of the conference rankings. Saturday evening was also Senior Night for Eastern Volleyball, recognizing Kara Clayton, Sade Williams, Britt Vaughn, Ashton Haughton, and Adrienne Washington. The leadership of these seniors have led Eastern Oregon to a 26-1 record among other notable contributions to the program.
The Mountaineers will next travel to Lewiston next Friday, facing the Lewis-Clark State at 7:00 p.m.
