LA GRANDE, Ore. – In Saturday’s matchup against Whitworth, Eastern Oregon baseball fell to the pirates with a final score of 3-8.
The Whitworth offense controlled the game early on, securing a lead they would maintain throughout. In the third inning, Aidan Morrison’s home run to left center gave Whitworth an early lead of 1-0. The trend continued in the fourth inning with Spencer Shipman’s homer, extending Whitworth’s lead to 2-0.
Whitworth’s offense remained relentless, adding to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings. Jacob Doughty’s homer in the fifth brought the score to 3-0. In the sixth inning, Aaron Clogston single to left center brought in two runs, followed by Morrison’s single which drove in three more, extending Whitworth’s lead to 8-0.
Eastern Oregon managed to respond in the later innings but fell short of a comeback. In the seventh inning, Mario Landeros’ double to left field finally put Eastern Oregon on the board, trailing 1-8. The gap narrowed slightly in the eighth inning with Parker Cumberland’s sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 2-8.
Despite a late rally in the ninth inning with Trevor Baker’s RBI single, Eastern Oregon ultimately couldn’t overcome Whitworth’s early lead, ending the game with a final score of 3-8.
