EOU Cross Country Makes Strides in Sasquatch Open

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon Cross Country team was back in action Wednesday afternoon, this time competing at the Sasquatch Open in Spokane Washington. Despite a slick and snow covered course, the Mounties had an impressive showing against local talent such as Gonzaga University and Spokane Falls Community College. 

With three of their top runners absent from the race, the women’s team had a strong performance in their 5k race, finishing in 4th place with a total of 97 points. The team displayed impressive consistency with their top five runners finishing closely together, resulting in a total time of 1:43:38 and an average time of 20:43. The spread between their top five runners was just 1 minute and 40 seconds. The entire team, including their top seven runners, completed the race in 2:27:28, averaging 21:04 per runner, with a spread of 2 minutes and 24 seconds. Lauryn Mitchell led the team with a 16th-place finish and a time of 19:40.8, followed closely by Mattie Woodbury in 26th place with a time of 20:21.0. Ashley Treadwell, Macey Reed, Kaleah Hines, Sadie McCoy, and Kendall Bonzani also contributed to the team’s strong performance as well.

Eastern Oregon Men’s Cross Country made their presence felt in their 8k race, securing the 2nd place spot with a total of 46 points. With their top five runners finished closely, resulting in a total time of 2:07:03 and an average time of 25:24. The entire team, including their top seven runners, completed the race in 2:59:18, averaging 25:36 per runner, with a spread of 1 minute and 8 seconds. Justin Ash led the team with a 7th-place finish and a time of 25:00.2, followed closely by Cristian Mendoza in 10th place with a time of 25:10.0. Thomas Ogden and Jonathan Wind also contributed to the team’s strong performance, with Wind setting a new PR to the time of 25:24.9. Hunter Nichols, Trevor Nichols, and George Showers further solidified the team’s success, rounding out an impressive race.

The Mounties will gear up for the CCC Championships next, held in Caldwell University on November 3rd.
