SPRINGFIELD, Ore – Eastern Oregon Women’s Soccer kicked off the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against the Owls of Oregon Tech. The game extended into two overtimes and eventually into a shootout in which the Mountaineers won 4-3 to take the match.
Eastern jumped out to an early lead after Kana Mateaki found the back of the net in the 12th minute on an unassisted goal. Mateaki was not done there as she extended the Mountaineers lead in the 69th minute with another unassisted goal. Oregon Tech fought back with a goal by Brianna Lewis in the 80th minute, assisted by Karly White, closing the gap to 2-1. Just three minutes later in the 83rd minute the Owls knotted the score up at two after White scored a goal of her own. After 90 minutes of play the score was tied at two sending the match into overtime.
Neither team was able to score in 20 minutes of overtime, sending the match to a shootout. Eastern Oregon clinched the victory in the penalty kick shootout, winning 4-3 advancing them to the semifinals of the CCC tournament.
