Eastern Splits Regular Season Finale With Raiders

LA GRANDE, Ore. – No. 11 Eastern Oregon Softball was back in action Saturday as they took on the No. 13 Southern Oregon Raiders. The Mounties split with the Raiders, dropping game one by a score 4-3 and taking game two by a score 7-3.

GAME ONE

The game started with Southern Oregon taking an early lead in the first inning when Piper Love reached on a fielder’s choice, driving in Faith Moultrie for a 1-0 advantage. Eastern responded in the third inning when Hannah Tyree hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Addison Ribordy to score an unearned run, tying the game at 1-1. SOU regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning with Hannah Clavelle’s RBI single to left field, bringing in Piper Love to make it 2-1.

In the fourth inning, the Raiders extended their lead after Love struck out swinging but reached first on a throwing error, allowing Kailer Fulton and Sarah Kerling to score unearned runs, pushing the lead to 4-1. The Mountaineers mounted a comeback effort in the seventh inning when Madison Olson launched a two-run homer to left field, bringing Ribordy home and cutting the deficit to 4-3. However, Southern Oregon managed to hold on to secure the win.

GAME TWO

Southern Oregon took an early lead in the first inning when Piper Love hit a sacrifice fly, bringing in Faith Moultrie for a 1-0 lead. Eastern responded in the second inning when Maddy Stateler singled to right field, driving in Carlee Jensen to tie the game at 1-1. In the third inning, the Mountaineers took control of the game with Madison Olson advancing to third base and Katelynn Evans scoring on a wild pitch, followed by Karly Hanosky’s two-RBI double to left center, giving Eastern Oregon a 4-1 lead. Southern  fought back in the fourth inning with Kelly Ann McKeown’s RBI single through the left side, bringing in Gabby Heiken. Brooke Nordahl then tripled to right center, driving in Christina Tadvick, narrowing the gap to 4-3. EOU widened their lead in the sixth inning when Brylin Field doubled to left field, bringing in Olivia Brown and Truh Merriman. Addison Ribordy added to the lead with a double to right center, extending the lead to 7-3.
