LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon Softball returned to action Sunday morning for the second half of a four-game series with the Pirates of Whitworth University. The Mountaineers took the first game by a score of 12-4 in six innings and dropped the second by a score of 7-1.
GAME 1
Whitworth gained an early first-inning lead after an Eastern throwing error on a steal attempt allowed the Pirates to take a 1-0 lead. The Mountaineers swiftly responded in the second inning as Gates Leatherwood homered to center field, driving in three runs and propelling Eastern Oregon to a 3-1 lead. Whitworth fought back in the third inning as they tied the game back up at three.
EOU surged ahead in the fourth inning, with Karly Hanosky delivering a clutch single down the right-field line, bringing in two runs and igniting a flurry of offense. Eastern Oregon continued to pile on the runs with Haley Tyree, Addison Ribordy, and Maddy Stateler all contributing RBIs in the inning, extending their lead to 9-3. Eastern Oregon maintained their momentum, adding to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings, ultimately securing the victory with a final score of 12-4.

GAME 2
The game kicked off with the Pirates taking an early lead in the first inning, after a sharp single through the infield brought home one, putting Whitworth ahead 1-0. They extended their lead in both the third and fourth inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double that scored three, giving the Pirates a 7-0 lead. The Mountaineers scored their first run of the game in the seventh inning after a Karly Hanosky double scored Truh Merriman. This would be the only Mountaineer run as the Pirates took the game by a score of 7-1.
