CORVALLIS, Ore. – Following a triumphant 4-0 start at the Big Sky Challenge, Eastern Oregon Volleyball has been named Under Armour Team of the Week by the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Mounties are the first team to receive the honor since kicking off the 2022-23 athletic year.
The Mountaineers seized the chance to gauge how their revamped team measured up against some of the NAIA’s best competition. This weekend’s resume included wins over two nationally ranked opponents, demonstrating why Eastern Oregon was chosen as the No. 3 team in this week’s NAIA Preseason Coaches Poll.
Thursday’s competition began with a 3-1 win against the No. 18 ranked College of Saint Mary, followed by another 3-1 victory over Arizona Christian University. EOU concluded Friday’s matchups without dropping a single set, securing 3-0 sweeps over both No. 10 Southwestern Assemblies of God University and Montana State-Northern University.
Standout performances were seen from players like Alexis McMurtrey, Sade Williams, and Madison Morgan among others.
“We are very thankful to the CCC and Under Armour,” said Head Coach Kaki McClean Morehead. “I am proud of how our team pushed themselves this weekend to perform at a high level and improve every game.”
The team is now preparing to compete in the Magic Island Hawaii Classic next weekend. The first game will be against Jessup University on Friday, Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. PT.
