One of the most daunting things about graduating college is the big job hunt that follows. The adult world of serious jobs is so far and wide that it may feel dizzying trying to navigate. And well, taking the first step is always the hardest, so where do you begin? Knowing how tough this journey can be, EOU has a couple of resources to get you started.
Spring Career Expo
Every spring students and recent alumni are given the opportunity to network with a variety of employers who are looking to hire. A great way to prepare yourself for this expo and do research on what employers will be present, is by frequently logging in to Handshake where those who signed up for the expo will be listed. EOU encourages students and alumni to plan ahead for the expo. Research employers, prepare resumes and other important documents, and come dressed for the job you want.
Career Services Center
Luckily, EOU offers plenty of resources in helping its graduates secure jobs after graduation. One of which is the career services center that provides in-person coaching and online resources to help both students and alumni with their job search. Coaching appointments can be made on Handshake. You can also contact them by calling 541-962-3711 or via email at careers@eou.edu. Follow them on Twitter @CareersEou for up-to-date job listings, events, and helpful tips.
Handshake
A great way to look for job listings is by using Handshake. Handshake allows you to network with EOU alumni, attend virtual job events, video chat with employers, and gives you a platform that allows potential employers to find your profile and contact you first. By uploading your resume and cover letter, Handshake makes applying for jobs through their website quick and easy.
While job hunting may seem intimidating, EOU has taken the initiative to take some of this pressure off of both its past and present students by providing plenty of job opportunities and resources. If you have questions or need extra help, reach out to the career services center. Remember to keep these resources in mind for the future because EOU won’t leave any mountaineers behind.
